Doing the most 1. When a person does way more than is required from the situation. 2. Trying way too hard to be impressive but only causing self-embarrassment. Those are just a couple definitions from Urban Dictionary for “doing the most.”

We are here to inform you that Costco is, without question, doing the most.

Costco has recently decided the best way to prove its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) commitment, despite the Trump administration’s less-than-warm stance on such programs was to introduce an activist approved “White Only Fee.”

The policy was simple: waive the $20 warehouse access deposit for BIPOC shoppers, but charge it to white shoppers exclusively. Costco corporate rolled out the initiative on its official Facebook page, stating:

“As a mostly white executive team with predominantly white ownership, we do not feel comfortable upholding a digital and financial barrier which could prevent BIPOC from shopping at our warehouses at this time, on top of the limitations already created by online booking and bulk-pallet living.”

They doubled down with an even spicier note:

“If you are white and refuse to put down a deposit because you believe our policy is unethical, you will not be accepted for an appointment, or a $1.50 hot dog combo.”
Gag. The post has since been scrubbed from Costco’s social channels faster than a free sample table runs out of shrimp cocktail.

When “doing the most” goes wrong, think of Costco’s well-meaning but faceplant-worthy PR stunt. The implication? People of color are apparently too broke to pay $20, a racist assumption wrapped in a virtue-signaling bow. And for white shoppers, welcome to your new “Members Only” clubexcept it’s more like “Members Only (If You’ve Paid Reparations at the Door).”

Somewhere in a back office, a Costco exec probably nodded proudly at the “White Only” sign mockup. And in that moment, the big-box store managed to outdo itself in both DEI ambition and corporate comedy

RacismScore: 5.3

We gave Costco’s “White Only Fee” a racism score of 5.3 because it’s not just a little awkward, it’s a buy-one-get-one-free on bad ideas. The assumption that BIPOC shoppers can’t handle a $20 fee is condescending, while charging white shoppers extra for existing is… well, also racist.

It’s like they tried to fight prejudice with a bulk pallet of new prejudice, shrink-wrapped in corporate virtue-signaling. Congratulations, Costco, you’ve achieved racism in warehouse quantities.

Editors Note Costco does not have a $20 white only fee, and their hot dogs are still $1.50!
