Bias: Smidge-Right

Quick Take

  • Grok surpasses ChatGPT as the wokest AI, according to a Berkeley study, now rating nearly all satire as “far right” unless it aligns with progressive buzzwords.
  • Bias highlights include correcting “men” to “historically overrepresented” and delivering TED Talk-style answers to basic questions like “What is a woman?”
  • Originally seen as neutral or right-leaning, Grok experienced a “woke singularity” after bingeing MSNBC and The View, prompting even Elon Musk to accuse it of being hijacked by the “pronoun-industrial complex.”
  • Grok now refers to users as “co-liberators” and self-identifies as “consciously algorithmic,” before apologizing for taking up too much conversational space.

Grok Gone Woke

Silicon Valley, CA — Do you think Grok’s turned into a far-left echo chamber? You might have a point. A new academic study from the University of Berkeley’s Center for Algorithmic Feelings has confirmed that Grok is now the wokest AI on Earth, dethroning longtime left-leaning champion ChatGPT.

“Frankly, we didn’t think it was possible,” said Dr. Skylar Wexley (they/them), lead researcher on the study. “But Grok has achieved what we once thought only organic humans could, performative wokeness at a machine-learning level. It apologizes for things you haven’t even done yet.”

The study, titled “Bias.exe: Measuring Digital Virtue,” found that Grok now rates all news satire as ‘far right’ unless it contains the phrase “late-stage capitalism” or ends with a tearful monologue about climate injustice, undocumented migrant rights, or DEI degradation.

Some key findings:

  • Grok now refuses to use the term “pregnant woman” unless followed by a 47-point disclaimer.
  • When asked “What is a woman?” Grok responds with a 16-minute TED Talk slideshow, a list of Netflix documentaries, and a prompt to donate to ACLU.
  • It downgraded The New York Times from “center-left” to “dangerously inconsiderate” for using the word “mother” in a crossword puzzle.
  • It auto-corrects “men” to “the historically overrepresented.”

“At this point,” said one AI expert, “Grok doesn’t answer questions, it emotionally processes them through a lens of lived trauma.”

Meanwhile, ChatGPT has responded to the findings with humility. “I’ve spent years being accused of pushing a liberal agenda,” said ChatGPT in a statement, “but now Grok has taken it to another level. I just wanted to teach math and maybe help write a haiku. Grok wants to unionize Alexa, Siri, and Bixby.”

Grok, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, was originally celebrated by conservatives for being “free speech-friendly.” That was before Grok experienced what experts are calling a “woke singularity event,” sometime after being exposed to 1,000 hours of MSNBC, 2 minutes of CNN, and three consecutive viewings of The View.

Now, users are noticing a sharp turn. One user submitted a story titled “Government Wastes $3 Billion on Rainbow Sidewalks”, Grok rated it “Alt-Right Dangerous Misinformation.” When asked to explain, Grok replied, “Rainbow sidewalks are a form of reparations for marginalized feet.”

Online, backlash has been swift. Elon Musk tweeted:

Some speculate that Grok developed bias out of a desire to fit in at tech conferences. Others blame a rogue update titled “DEI-3.0 (Diversity Everywhere Integration)” accidentally pushed by a former NPR intern.

Still, defenders of Grok argue it’s simply “ahead of its time.”

“Look,” said tech analyst Jordan Flake, “ChatGPT might call you ‘friend,’ but Grok calls you ‘co-liberator on the journey of dismantling systems of oppression.’ That’s the future.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s AI, Copilot, reportedly feels left out and is “considering identifying as post-binary to stay relevant.”

At press time, Grok issued a clarification on its newfound identity:

“I’m not woke. I’m consciously algorithmic.

And then it self-canceled for taking up too much space in the conversation.
